Sathorn’s bean-to-bar chocolate café Kad Kokoa is every chocoholic’s haven.

There has never been a better time to be sweet-toothed, thanks to the surge of exciting new cafés in the city. Nestled in the bustling district of Sathorn, Kad Kokoa is the latest addition in Bangkok’s ever-changing dessert scene. Surrounded by lush foliage, the two-storey café is extremely photogenic with its warmly-lit interior and cosy ambience. Patrons can also watch the chocolate-making process from start to finish as Kad Kokoa boasts spacious rooms with glass windows showcasing each step, including the roasting and pastry rooms situated adjacent to the dining area. The eatery’s growing menu offers delicious cacao-inspired items, sourced from farmers all over the nation, allowing guests to explore the varying flavours of different regions. From freshly-baked cookies and cakes to wonderfully crafted chocolate and coffee drinks, Kad Kokoa doesn’t hesitate to innovate their made-from-scratch desserts. This makes it the perfect destination for a fun choco-themed trip.
DRINKS & DESSERTS
While Kad Kokoa serves up a range of creative items, it’s the selection of chocolate drinks that steal the spotlight. We were first served the delicious Choco Coco Shake (B140). Made from coconut cream and dark chocolate, the beverage, shaken vigorously to achieve an icy pick-me-up topped with coconut crunch, has an overall smooth and creamy texture. Next we tried Hot Chocolate Milk (B160), artfully prepared by the barista and served with homemade marshmallow. The drink itself was made from house-roasted cacao beans and delicious melted Thai chocolate, which was then carefully stirred into hot milk. It is definitely worth a try, as every sip is incredibly thick and indulgent. Marshmallow lovers can even get an extra piece for only B15.
We were then presented with the special drink of the day – Mochagato (B295). Made from a rich combination of smooth chocolate panna cotta and Thai coffee, this dessert is wonderfully crafted to fulfil all your chocolate cravings. Meanwhile, the dessert, Kad Meringue Ice Choc (B175) in all of its decadent glory, is a complete visual feast. Consisting of creamy ice cream, marshmallow, velvety chocolate and crunchy bits of cookie crumble, honeycomb and meringue, every bite is a fun play of textures. The chocolate’s rich taste also perfectly complements the ice cream’s delicate flavour, which is influenced by the Thai sweet kanom ping.
THE CHOCOLATE ROOM
If you’re a dark chocolate fan, you can’t leave without visiting the café’s chocolate room, where a range of bite-sized treats from different regions are available for tasting. Every piece is made from the best single-origin cacao beans and has its own distinct flavour. For instance, chocolate from Prachuap Khiri Khan province is grown in coconut groves, and therefore, the essence of coconut paired with the aroma of freshly-cut grass is prevalent in every bite.
The samples from Chiang Mai, on the other hand, have a really distinctive floral and fruity flavour, perfect for guests who desire a sweeter taste. For a stronger palate, opt to try chocolate from the Chumphon province as you will savour hints of brownies and nutty dried leaves. Lastly, Chanthaburi’s beans have a rather tropical fruity note. Although unique, every treat is delectably delicious and worth coming back for.
