HASAN MINHAJ: THE KING’S JESTER (NETFLIX)
Continuing his legacy after the much-appreciated Homecoming King (2017) and Patriot Act (2018-2020), comedian and stand-up sensation Hasan Minhaj is returning to the screen with his newest show, The King’s Jester. Directed by Prashanth Venkataramanujam, the show goes back to Hasan’s storytelling roots, covering all his most recent encounters in life, including his recently-acquired father status. After the 2018 Peabody Award, and the rave reviews that all his attempts at comedy garner, the show is much-awaited, especially by those who understand the experience of being global desis.

MAJA MA (PRIME VIDEO)
Actor, writer, and filmmaker Anand Tiwari, known for Love per Square Foot (2018), Bandish Bandits (2020- ), and Bang Baaja Baarat (2015- ), has come out with yet another exciting project, in collaboration with celebrated actress Madhuri Dixit. Other notable cast members include Gajraj Rao, Barkha Singh, and Sheeba Chaddha. Maja Ma is also the first Prime Original to be released in the country, with hopefully more to follow. The movie promises to be an all-inclusive festive drama, perfect to kick-start the wedding season we’re all ready and eager to enter.

WEREWOLF BY NIGHT (DISNEY+ HOTSTAR)
The first Halloween special to come out of the MCU, Werewolf by Night is expected to dive into the horror head-on. Based on the eponymous Marvel Comics character, the movie was directed by award-winning composer Michael Giacchino, and follows a group of monster hunters who try to discover the hidden monster in their ranks. Shining brightly through its black and white frames, the film’s cinematography alone, which replicates the look and feel of old-school horror classics like Frankenstein (1931), seems worth giving it a shot.

MISMATCHED SEASON 2 (NETFLIX)
The second season of Mismatched (2020- ) is set to release on Netflix this month. The first season of the series, featuring influencer Prajakta Koli and actor Rohit Saraf, was an overload of cuteness, and we expect this season to follow suit. The cast and crew themselves, including director Akarsh Khurana, have expressed
excitement about the upcoming season. The show is based on the romance novel When Dimple Met Rishi by Indian-American author Sandhya Menon, and this season, the two protagonists will brave a summer camp in Jaipur – with all the drama, anxiety, love, and identity crises that come with it. If young-adult fiction set in contemporary India is your bait, then this show’s definitely for you!

LUCKIEST GIRL ALIVE (NETFLIX)
A new American mystery-thriller based on Jessica Knoll’s book of the same name, Luckiest Girl Alive stars Mila Kunis amongst many other noted actors. Produced by Reece Witherspoon and directed by Mike Barker, the film revolves around a relentless woman from New York whose walk to a perfect life is hindered by her high-school past. The trailer, gritty and glamourous both at the same time, seems to be just the dose of thrill you need this October.
