From Kombucha to raw juice, we’re always on the hunt for new refreshments, supplements, or brews to add to our day-to-day routine in order to improve things like gut health, cholesterol, quality of sleep, and just to make us feel better or healthier.
As someone who loves spicy food but has always struggled with maintaining her stomach’s sensitive microbiome due to inflammation, I’ve grown sick of just how many things can set my tummy off. As a result, I’ve looked into incorporating things like probiotics into my diet as the first step in my journey to improving my stomach’s overall health, so when I first heard about Jamulogy, I was excited that there was another option for me to consider in my pursuit.
Based on Jamu, a traditional medicinal art from Indonesia that dates back 1,300 years and uses bark, flowers, seeds, leaves, and fruits to create herbal remedies, Jamulogy aims to bottle all of these incredible, healthful properties in the form of refreshing, convenient beverages you can incorporate into your daily routine.
The launch of the brand was inspired by the fact that too many of us have put our health on the backburner, whether that be because of busy schedules or the bad habit of prioritising literally everything else first. The team discovered that so much of the market was dominated by health drinks that simply tasted too much like medicine, while on the other end of the spectrum, the ones that tasted good were loaded with sugar and preservatives.
With the goal of setting a new precedence for health drinks that both taste good and have real health benefits, Jamulogy’s drinks incorporate herbs like turmeric, ginger, galangal, garlic, and a plethora of others, all of which are packed with antioxidants and immunity boosting properties.
To make Jamu as approachable as possible to the general consumer, Jamulogy have crafted four different flavours (THB 85 for a 180ml bottle; THB 360 for a 1,000ml bottle), each aiding with different health concerns. Here are a few:
- For the elderly, certain blends can help with arthritis and pain relief, heart and gut health, and constipation.
- For athletes, some of their brews can aid with performance and recovery, joint and muscle strength, and stamina.
- For women, some blends can help with post-childbirth recovery, breastfeeding, and menstrual pain.
- In general, Jamu can aid with gut health and liver detoxing, is a mood and energy booster, and strengthens immunity.
All their blends can be enjoyed warm, cold, or with some added soda water for extra fizziness. We opted to try them chilled.
Up first was the Tamarind Jamu made from turmeric, ginger, tamarind, lime, lemongrass, honey, black pepper, and cinnamon. The drink has a slightly spicy aftertaste from the pepper and ginger, but as someone who has always enjoyed a glass of warm water, honey, and ginger to detoxify the system, the flavours were actually quite familiar and I enjoyed this bottle a lot. This blend can help with battling inflammation, detoxifying the body, improving hormonal balance, and boosting immunity.
Up next was the Apple Cider Jamu crafted from turmeric, ginger, apple cider vinegar, honey, black pepper, and cinnamon. Tailor-made to help with inflammation, hormonal imbalances, stronger immunity, and better sleep, I have to say that this was my favourite out of the bunch. The vinegar combined with the pepper and ginger creates a strong, spicy aftertaste, which I found to be really refreshing. I definitely would not mind making this blend a part of my morning routine as it packs a delicious punch.
We then sampled the Garlic Ginger Jamu, an interesting blend of ginger, garlic, lime, apple cider vinegar, honey, cinnamon, and clove. Upon opening the bottle, the dominant smell was definitely that of garlic, which I love but haven’t come across too often in the health drinks I’ve enjoyed in the past. Definitely the brew to try if you’re a fan of more savoury flavours, this blend can help you lower cholesterol and boost immunity. It’s also packed with antioxidant properties that can help you fight off colds and seasonal flus.
Finally, we tried the Passionfruit Jamu, a refreshing blend of turmeric, passionfruit, lime, and honey. The mildest and fruitiest blend out of the bunch, I would definitely recommend those unfamiliar with Jamu to start with sampling this flavour as it’s very easy on the palate! I can definitely picture just how refreshing it would be if it was served ice cold first-thing in the morning.
If you’re interested in sampling any of Jamulogy’s tonics, their products are now available at Lemonfarm and Rimping supermarkets, 30+ local health shops around Thailand, and on Shopee and Lazada as well. To learn more about the benefits of Jamu, make sure to visit their social media platforms.
