An Oasis of Taste.
By Grace Clarke
There’s a certain allure in seeking comfort, especially when it’s wrapped in the embrace of an exceptional Thai meal. And when that experience unfolds in a space that mirrors the refinement of the dishes themselves you know you’re in for something riveting. Greenhouse Restaurant & Terrace at Avani Sukhumvit Bangkok is just such a place. Step inside, and the city’s lively pulse melts away into an atmosphere of refined tranquillity delicate tune that harmonises with Bangkok’s vibrant energy, inviting you to rejuvenate as you savour each passing moment.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Upon stepping out of the elevator on the seventh floor of Avani Sukhumvit Bangkok, I was immediately welcomed by the inviting embrace of the renowned establishment. The interior is thoughtfully adorned with blond wood accents, a playful juxtaposition of wood and tile flooring, sleek black metal details, and strategically placed greenery; a refreshing oasis amid the city’s bustling pace.
As your gaze sweeps across the expansive restaurant, your attention is inevitably drawn to the terrace, which offer a captivating view of the city skyline. The outdoor space beckons, inviting you to step through the glass doors, where you can sip your drink of choice by their outdoor bar while basking in the golden hues of a Bangkok sunset.
Inside, the bar is fully equipped with the essentials to craft your favourite cocktails, offering a sophisticate yet inviting space for any occasion. For seating, the venue offers an array of options: cosy indoor nooks to comfortable sofas, chic chairs, and spacious outdoor tables, perfect for intimate gatherings or lively conversations. For those seeking a more dynamic experience, standing tables near the live music station provide the ideal spot to immerse yourself in the music under a soft blanket of moonlight.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE
During our visit, we had the pleasure of indulging in two culinary experiences offered at this establishment: the Signature A La Carte Menu and the All You Can Eat Menu. Each provided a unique journey through bold flavours and meticulous presentation, creating a truly memorable culinary affair.
The Signature A La Carte Menu is a testament to the restaurant’s ability to seamlessly blend traditional Thai taste with modern culinary techniques. Each dish is impeccably presented and brimming with rich, layered flavours – ideal for sharing in the convivial Thai tradition or savouring as an indulgent solo experience. Masala savoured this exquisite menu and was taken by the Salmon and lotus stem spicy salad (THB 290++), which combined the richness of salmon with a zesty dressing that balanced heat and acidity. The Grilled beef thai herb salad (THB 360++) featured tender grilled beef with aromatic Thai herbs. The Fried snapper with fresh herbs and tamarind sauce, betel leaves (THB 850++) was an inspiring centrepiece, with crispy skin and a fragrant tamarind sauce. For dessert, the Thai tea cassata ice cream cake (THB 180++) offered creamy Thai tea ice cream and delicate cassata sweetness, leaving a smooth finish.
We also savoured their All You Can Eat Menu, available daily from noon to 2.30pm, and 5pm to 9.30pm. Priced accessibly at THB 790 per person from Monday to Thursday, and THB 890 per person from Friday to Sunday, diners can enjoy 90 minutes of unlimited, flavour-packed dishes. For those seeking an elevated experience, an optional premium menu is available for THB 1,490 per person. Both menus come with a free-flow of soft drinks keeping the energy light and refreshing throughout. Whether you opt for the classic or premium selection, this dining experience is an exceptional value for money, offering a blend of variety, quality and indulgence. Masala had the chance to savour this exceptional lineup and was particularly impressed by the Fried pork belly with fish sauce, which offered an addictive crunch with a satisfying umami depth. The Pomelo salad with grilled prawn delivered a refreshing burst of tangy textures, while the Mango sticky rice provided a tropical, chewy, and sweet finale. These are just a few examples of the delightful offerings that make this menu truly memorable.
After our sumptuous meal, we indulged in a selection of the restaurant’s new Signature Cocktails Menu. At the heart of this experience is Khun Nook, the masterful bartender whose artistry seamlessly melds bold flavours into one glass. Each drink priced at TH 380++ is as refined as it is imaginative, beginning with the Bangkok bliss, a creamy, tropical blend of Chalong Bay coconut, muskmelon, and coconut milk; a sip of pure paradise. The Greenhouse G&T redefines the classic cocktail with its crisp, aromatic harmony of handcrafted Terrace gin and tonic. For a glass that oozes elegance, the Terrace midnight layers Black Label with roasted hojicha, bamboo charcoal, lime juice, and a whisper of maple syrup, topped with ginger ale for a smoky-sweet crescendo.
MASALA RECOMMENDS
The Stir-fried soft shell crab with chilli and garlic (THB 280++) is undeniably a standout, a refined reinterpretation of the traditional soft shell crab we often indulge in during our visits to coastal retreats. The soft shell crab, delicately crispy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth tender on the inside, offers the perfect contrast of textures Complemented by the aromatic chilli and the depth of garlic, the dish delivers a congruous blend of flavour that lingers on the palate, leaving a memorable impression that invites further appreciation.
